Embrace Race

Member Matching Donation Drive for Embrace Race:
As Naturopathic Physicians who specialize in pediatric medicine, our goal is to treat our patients as an individual, as well as their relationship with their family and their community. Much of what 2020 taught us is that our voice is a powerful tool, and it is time that we are vocal for the causes that promote pediatric well-being - mentally, physically, and emotionally. Naturopathic physicians treat patients across many of the states in the United States, as well as many provinces in Canada. Through the elected PedANP board, we are a voice for our membership and strive to be a support system for both pediatric-specific and family-practice Naturopathic physicians.

We believe that our values at the PedANP align with many social justice causes, but one in particular speaks to our hearts is the Black Lives Matter movement. The PedANP takes a stance against racial disparities, not only within societal structures but also within the medical community as well. Unfortunately, it is not new news that Blacks, Latinx, Indigenous, and other communities of color experience health and racial disparities compared to those of White communities. Many organizations are doing the work to support children who have questions regarding racism in our world, as well as helping to educate those who are not familiar with this experience.

One organization in particular, Embrace Race (www.embracerace.org), is particularly powerful for anyone who takes care of children. Embrace Race has many resources for teachers, parents, caregivers, and medical providers for often hard to discuss topics of race with children. This organization has many high-quality action packets, webinars, articles, and other educational learning tools on how to discuss the concept of race with all children, regardless of background or location.

The PedANP Advocacy Committee is launching a member donation matching program where the PedANP will match member donations up to $300 to help support this organization continue to put out high-quality resources for the public’s benefit. Please consider any amount of a donation to this incredible cause - every dollar counts towards helping them to continue working on this ever-important goal of awareness and education of the public.

“Our Story

There is a growing body of research and evidence that makes clear that children’s racial sensibilities begin to form in infancy, that almost all children develop racial and other biases by kindergarten, and that those biases become fairly entrenched by adolescence. And yet, most national organizations dedicated to children’s racial learning direct their resources mainly to middle and high school educators. There are too few resources for young children available for parents, grandparents or other caregivers or for early childhood educators.

EmbraceRace helps fill that gap.

Who is Embrace Race

EmbraceRace was founded in early 2016 by two parents who set out to create the community and gather the resources they needed (need!) to meet the challenges faced by those raising children in a world where race matters.”
